Annual fun run
The annual “Press” park-to-park fun run tomorrow will start at Sydenham Park at 9.30 a.m. There are three distances to suit the fitness of the 3000 to 4000 runners expected to take part. The shortest is only Ikm, from the park to Boon’s Bakery in Devon Street and back, via Colombo Street. Those with a little more stamina will be able to continue south along Colombo Street, right into Ashgrove Terrace, then cross the Heathcote River by The Princess Margaret Hospital and back to Sydenham Park via Cashmere Road, Centaurus Road, the Bowenvale bridge (just past the ice-skating rink), Eastern Terrace, and Waimea Terrace to Colombo Street. For the very fit there is a 10.4 km course which includes a hill section from The Princess Margaret Hospital, up Hackthorne Road, along MacMillan Avenue, and down Dyers Pass Road to connect with Centaurus Road and the same route as the shorter course along the flat beside the Heathcote River. Certificates will be given to all finishers. Proceeds from the entry fee of $1 a runner will go to Red Cross.
