Thai crash kills 31
NZPA ' Bangkok All 31 people aboard a i Thai Air Force transport « plane were killed as the ’ C 123 turbo-prop attempted » a landing in the worst air J disaster in Thai military t history, the official Radio * Thailand announced. , The radio said that the » American-made aircraft j had attempted to land at
the Takhli Air Force base when the accident happened. The radio gave no other details, but senior a Air Force source said that the aircraft was believed to have developed engine trouble on the approach and plummeted to the ground. The aircraft was on a 290 km flight from another Air Force base at Utapao.
The source said that most of those killed were mechanics being rotated from Utapao to Takhli, located 177 km north of Bangkok. Both bases were built and used by the United States during the Indo-China War. A team has been dispatched from Bangkok to the scene to investigate the accident.
