Maori steals show
PA Auckland An arts graduate, Wi Te Tau Huata, stole the show at the Auckland Town Hall yesterday when, bare-footed and with a moko stencilled on his face, he walked up to be capped. Underneath the traditional mortar board and gown of capping ceremonies he wore a Maori cloak and piupiu, borrowed from the Auckland Museum. “I did it first because I am Maori and also because the degree I did (bachelor of arts) majored in Maori. “I thought it was most appropriate for the occasion,” he said. The tattoos done with an eyebrown pencil, took two hours to complete and “five mintues to wash off later,” he said.
