Illegal immigrant charge denial
: A Northern Irishman, Anthony Gerrard Butler, 3O, charged with being an illegal immigrant, denied the charge in the District Court yesterday. , Butler, who was arrested by the police on the morning prior to the Cathedral Square walkabout by Prince Charles and Princess Diana, tvas remanded to June 10 for a defended hearing. i Butler’s reporting times to the police were changed ht the request of counsel (Mr B. D. Kinley). ■ Mr Kinley submitted that his client was a visitor who Kould like to see more of ew Zealand than just the bity of Christchurch. On his earlier appearance in court Butler was ordered to report twice daily to the police.
! Yesterday Judge Pain varied this by ordering the iefendant to report to the jolice between 4 p.m. and 8 ).m. between, and including, Monday and Thursday, leavng him free for the weekends. Mr A. M. Mclntosh, for ;he Immigration Department, said he did not oppose lie reporting variation.
