Welfare grants correction
Although the New Zealand Lottery Board has cut its allocations by $2 million this year, the board has given special recognition to increasing pressure in the welfare and youth areas. A Press Association report in “The Press” yesterday incorrectly said that welfare and youth groups would receive $2 million less than last year. The welfare services distribution committee has had its allocation increased
from $1.85 million last year to $2 million. The youth services allocation has increased from $500,000 to $600,000 this year. The Film Commission received $500,000 this year, a drop of $300,000 on last year. The allocation to aged people’s welfare is down $200,000 from $1 million. Medical and scientific research will both receive about $50,000 less this year.
