CTP involved in mill plan
PA Auckland Canterbury Timber Products, Ltd, the Rangiorabased fibreboard manufacturer, is investigating the building of a medium-den-sity fibreboard mill in the South Auckland region for its parent companies, Alex Harvey Industries, Ltd (A.H.1.) and Carter Holt Holdings, Ltd. Carter Holt’s joint managing director, Mr Richard Carter, said yesterday that if the plant was built it could create between 200 and 250 jobs. The mill would use residual wood from the greater Auckland region. It was generally economic to truck chip for such a mill within a 100 km radius, he said. Incorporated in the study would be the concept of a high export percentage, both for panel and added value products. These added value pro-
ducts would be the same as the range of customwood finishing mouldings that have recently been introduced by Canterbury Timber Products (CTP). The range would also include panels overlaid with a range of different finishes. The mill would have a capacity greater than that of CTP’s mill, but it would be designed to work profitably at between 65 and 70 per cent of capacity, Mr Carter said. arts from the mill je aimed at markets further than Australia, because CTP had an agreement on the Australian market with the Wagga Wagga fibreboard plant owned by Australian Consolidated Industries, Ltd, the parent of A.H.I. If the project went ahead, CTP would be the vehicle for its establishment and construction, he said.
