Aust. market slightly easier
Substantial trading in Grace Bros and heavy trading in Australian Oil and Gas, Weeks Australia, and Southland Mining highlighted trading, as Australian sharemarkets drifted lower for the fourth day in a row. The Australian All-Ordin-aries Index was down 0.6 at 588.5, because of slight declines throughout the market. The All-Industrials Index was off 0.9 at 743.1, and the All-Resources Index virtually unchanged at 464.0, down 0.4. Trading was moderately active, totalling sAustl3.s million in Sydney, and sAustl4.7 million in Melbourne. Despite the easier tone, however, rises slightly outnumbered falls on both major exchanges — in Sydney by 122 to 107, with 195 traded issues unchanged, and in Melbourne by 96 to 93, with 160 traded issues unchanged. Grace Bros stirred the greatest interest, as trading volumes picked up considerably when four brokers in Sydney increased their bids by 1c to 426 c.
