Emergency call for sick seaman
A sick seaman in a Japanese tuna vessel arrived at Lyttelton early yesterday morning. The pilot cutter Wairangi was called out to the Koyo Maru 51 about 2.30 a.m., said the Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour. The Wairangi was met at the cattle jetty by a doctor about. 3.10 a.m. An ambulance took the seaman to hospital where he yesterday underwent tests. His condition is not serious and he will fly back to Japan when he has recovered from a stomach complaint. The Koyo Maru 51 will return to the fishing grounds today, without the seaman. Captain Barbour was pleased with the way the emergency effort went. “The men react well to any emergencies,” he said. Small-boat forecast .
