Girl to rejoin her dad

Geraldine reporter

Thuy Nguyen, a Vietnamese refugee girl living in Geraldine, will fly to the United States on Sunday to join her father who has been traced by the International Red Cross.

Thuy lost her mother at birth, and became separated from her father.

She came to New Zealand in 1980 with her uncle, Sean Nguyen, and her cousins Loc, My, Hung and Huong. They were joined .by her aunt Xuan last May.

Thuy’s father, Long Nguyen, now lives in Denver, Colorado.

Thuy has attended the Geraldine primary school for the last two years, where she has received her only formal education. This week she put on a small function to farewell the many friends made at the school.

Her age is unknown, but school authorities believe that she is about 13.
