Man dies while tramping
Bad weather, has hampered attempts to bring out the body of a man who died while tramping in the Jollies Pass area, in the upper reaches of the Waiau River on Saturday. He was
Cedric Hobson Turner, aged 73, of 185 Huxley Street, Christchurch.
Four men went into the area yesterday afternoon to bring Mr Turner’s body out but rain hampered progress.
Mr Turner is believed to have collapsed and died while tramping with a group. One of the party walked out to raise the alarm.
Strong winds and rain buffeted the area most of yesterday. A party will enter the area at dawn today from the Lewis Pass Road and tramp to the Ada Hut to pick up the body.
