Help for Polar walker
From DIANA DEKKER, in London The Bristol adventurer and mountaineer, David Hempleman-Adams, aged 26, who is walking to the North Pole, alone, has been airlifted off the icecap and taken back to first base at Ward Hunt Island in Canada. He had been on the ice for a week in temperatures of —43deg.C. and needs urgent repairs to much of his expedition equipment.
He had been out of radio contact for four days with his team at the base camp at Eureka and needs new sleeping bags and repairs to his tent and skis.
He plans to fly back to the same position within two days to continue the journey.
