Asbestos group in large loss
British newspapers reKirted that Turner and ewell, the big asbestos products group, had discosed net losses of £71.8 million for 1982. The recession and continued fears about the health hazards from asbes-tos-related diseases have pushed the company to an all-time low.
Provisions against lawsuits from asbestos disease sufferers in the United States and Britain rose by 64 per cent to £6.4 million. The company is currently facing 1000 lawsuits in the U.S. and 230 in Britain from employees and other people who claim they are suffering from mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases.
