World chess
NZPA-Reuter Moscow The Soviet grandmaster, Gary Kasparov, has qualified for the semi-final of the World Chess Championship when he beat compatriot Alexandr Belyavsky by six matches to three. Kasparov, aged 19, becomes the first player to reach the last four in the hunt for a challenger to the Soviet world champion, Anatoly Karpov. The other three quarter-finals are due to be completed by April 15.
