NZPA Suva, Fiji More than 1000 American soldiers will land in Fiji tomorrow to help repair damage caused by Cyclone Oscar last month.
The troops will be off the U.S.S. Samuel Gompers, a destroyer tender that provides repair and supply services for American Navy ships. The Gompers will put
ashore teams of skilled technicans who will work on special projects selected by the Fijian Government. The teams include electrical repair technicians, welders, pipefitters, electronics experts, communications technicians, carpenters and a medical-dental team. The ship can also produce, each day, more than 100,000 gallons of drinking water from seawater.
