Woman jockeys for Japan

PA Auckland Two of three young female riders, Dianne Moseley, Debbie Healey and Maree Lyndon, will represent New Zealand through a series of races in Japan in September. Two Australian women will also ride in the series, against male jockeys. Moseley, Healey and Lyndon were recommended by the senior stipendiary stewart, Mr Arthur Bird, but only two will make the trip. A final decision on the pair will be made next month. The series of races, organised by the Hokkaido Racing Club, will be held in

Sapporo over six riding days.

The women will attract a lot of attention because Japan has no female jockeys, Mr Bob Silson, who is organising the New Zealand side of the series, said at Paeroa on Saturday. They will also find the trip “most lucrative,” Mr Silson said.

Dianne Moseley was discharged from Hawera Hospital on Friday. She was slightly concussed and received facial abrasions and a black eye in a fall at the Opunake Racing Club’s meeting at Hawera on Wednesday.
