Noble Jewel has royal chance at Oamaru
Special correspondent Dunedin Noble Jewel would need only a change of luck to be hardest to beat in the De Geest Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double and second leg of the treble at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting today. Noble Jewel has had interrupted runs in his three class one races since he won at Washdyke in December. He was unable to get clear when fourth in the
Waikouaiti Cup and filled a
similar placing in his last start at Riverton on February 12. He was blocked for a run at Omakau in between times and injured a leg, which caused him a minor setback. A wide draw could be the main obstacle for Noble Jewel today. Timax has run some useful races over middle distances in recent starts and he should be to the fore. He finished third in the corresponding race last year.
Queen’s Pal stands out in
the first leg of the treble, the Waitaki Stakes. She beat most of her rivals today in the Otago Mannequin Stakes over 1600 m last time out after an early check. Justa Pique, one of the more promising horses at Wingatui, is fancied for the third leg of the treble. He won narrowly but well last time out at Cromwell. SELECTIONS 11.35: Vingt ’un, Bold Ambassador, Allez Bijou. 12.10: Beaufort Castle, British
Blue, Special Turn.
12.45: Lord Killamey, Perky Pride, Ocean Tot. 120: Queen’s Pal, Astral Row, Fairway Lass. 155: Sharon’s Joy, Ashwell, Native Light. 2.35: Noble Jewel, Timax, Hiwinui. 3.15: Beau Ideal, Out of the' Red, Silver Laurel. 3.50: Strange Magic, Ruby’s Boy, Lynvari. 4.30: Amacola, Shuttle, Nottingham Lea. 5.10: Justa Pique, Egyptian Princess, Dulcia.
