Success at last!
Mr Alf Teonea, of Christchurch, holds the 3.12 kg salmon he caught at the Waimakariri River mouth in the Daiwa Waimakariri fishing contest on Saturday. This was bis first salmon this year. The contest was won by Mr K. L. Pegley, of Karaki Beach, who landed a salmon weighing 7.165 kg.
Mr G. R. Beale took second prize with a 5.135 kg salmon and Mr T. G. Dodds third with a 3.765 kg salmon. The contest attracted about 250 entries. It was the seventh in a national circuit sponsored by Daiwa, a company which makes fishing equipment. In the under-16 section, G.
Roberts took first prize with a 2.7 kg kahawai. A 350 g herring won R. Colombus second place, and D. Sole was third with a 325 g herring. The contest organiser, Mr Chris Thompson, said that the event was held in ideal weather conditions and that kahawai dominated the catch.
