Vintage tractor engines will be a feature of the Hawarden A. and.P. Show tomorrow. The engines belong to members of the Hurunui Vintage Machinery Club. One such enthusiast is Mr
Logan Quigley, who has restored several engines and will be taking a Marshall 5.6 kW (Bhp) and a McLaren 7kW (lOhp) to the show. The Marshall tractor was used for threshing and was working on a farm until the
late 19305. About 12 months was spent restoring the engine. The McLaren was used on the Coleridge Power Station and then at a sawmill and finally abandoned as a derelict engine.
Both engines were taken up to Hanmer Springs recently for the centenary celebrations. The trip, from Masons Flat (near Hawarden) to Hanmer Springs, took about two days and one tonne of fuel.
