Deficit to be smaller
NZPA Sydney The Australian Government’s Budget deficit for 1983-84 is expected to be around sAust7.s billion, not the sAust9.6 billion estimated by the Treasury, bank economists say. They also believe that the funding requirements to meet the 1982-83 deficit of about sAust4.s billion is well on target with only an estimated sAustsoo-600 million in Commonwealth bonds expected to be issued around June. Economists said that based on figures in the Reserve Bank’s February bulletin, issued on Wednesday, . estimated holdings of Government securities by the non-bank sector was about sAust4 billion.
