250 runs to Victoria

NZPA-Reuter Leongatha. Victoria A steady Victorian country XI yesterday curbed the touring New Zea'land cricket team's race to win their sixth match in the seven-match tour of Australia. The tourists, with a string of wins against local sides after drawing the first match of their tour at Towoomba in Queensland, were aiming to hammer another victory at Leongatha in eastern Victoria.

However, the Victorian team, after being sent in. added 87 for the first wicket, and reached five for 218 before collapsing to be all out for 250 shortly before stumps. Peter Webb and Robert Vance took the tourists to none for six at stumps. The top wicket taker, the spinner Evan Gray, again did most of the damage for the tourists, with four for 54, taking his tally in Australia to 36 wickets.
