The young New Zealander, Stuart Davenport, is poised to enter the elite top 10 in the world squash seedings list after a fine performance in the Irish open in which he gave the world champion, Jahangir Khan, his toughest battle for a long time. The Wellingtonian was
defeated 2-9, 9-7, 5-9, 7-9 by the all-conquering Khan in a gruelling one hour and 25 minutes semi-final clash.
“That’s the most points that have been taken off Khan and the longest he’s been kept on court for well over a year,” Davenport’s coach, Mr Bryce Taylor, said. “Stuart said he felt Khan was shaky at 7-all in the fourth set,” he said.
