Rabbidge top seed for rally
Carl Rabbidge, of Timaru, will lead away the field in tomorrow’s Westland rally, first event of the new rally ‘ season. Rabbidge, the reigning Mainland series champion, finished second in last year’s Westland rally to the former national champion, Jim Donald (Auckland), but has been given the No. 1 spot because Donald is driving a lower-powered car this year. Brian Walker (Christchurch, Escort RS) was given the No. 2 position but will not start, as his car is not ready. The rally, which will start in Greymouth at 11 a.m. tomorrow and see the first car arrive back about 4.50
p.m.,. will take the 65 crews over 239 km of Westland roads, including seven highspeed special stages totalling 137 km. Leading seeds are.—C. Rabbidge (Timaru, Datsun Stanza 2.0) 1, vacant 2, A.
