Death not suspicious
Detectives are satisfied that there was nothing suspicious about the death of a man who collapsed in Cathedral Square on Monday. The man, Colin John Finlayson, aged 53, died in
Christchurch Hospital 24 hours after he was picked up from the footpath outside the Government Life Building at 12.45 p.m. on Monday. He was later found to have suffered a fracture on the right side of the
head. Detective Inspector B. J. Williams said yesterday that there had been a big response from the public to a police appeal through the news media for information about Mr Finlayson.
“We have now been able to account for Mr Finlayson’s movements up to the time that he collapsed, and we have confirmed that there was nothing suspicious about his death,” said Mr Williams.
