Singer’s injurer imprisoned
NZPA-Reuter San Francisco The man who drove his van Into a taxi carrying the singer, Mary Martin, killing her manager, has been sentenced to three years jail for vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving. Roberto Cato, aged 36, was imprisoned for the maximum term by Judge Raymond Arata in the Superior Court. In the accident on September 5, 1982, Cato’s van went through a red light at a San Francisco street crossing. It crashed into the side of a taxi taking'Miss Martin, her friend and manager, Mr Ben Washer, the actress, Janet Gaynor, and Miss Gaynor's husband, Mr Paul Gregpry, to a local restaurant. Mt Washer was killed and the others suffered multiple injuries.
