Hollywood Cup worth $500,000
The $500,000 guaranteed Hollywood Gold Cup, Hollywood Park’s traditional •‘Race of Champions,” headlines a $3.8 million stakes programme for the 1983 spring-summer meeting. The 68-day spring-sum-
mer thoroughbred season will begin on Wednesday, April 27, at Hollywood Park, which will be the host track for the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Series in November, 1984. More than half of the 34 stakes events to be offered during the spring-summer campaign will be worth $lOO,OOO or more and the average stakes value will be a record $113,235.
The Gold Cup (IVtm), to be run on June 26, is one of nine Grade I races on the 1983 Hollywood Park spring-summer stakes roster and it is one of 13 added-money races for three-year-olds and up, eight of which will carry purses of $lOO,OOO or more.
