Group wants P.M. dead

NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires An ultra-nationalist Argentinian group has claimed responsibility for letter bombs sent to the British Prime Minister, Mrs Thatcher, and the United States Navy headquarters in London this week, according to the private news agency, DYN.

The agency reported yesterday it had had a call from a man saying he belonged to an organisation called “April 2” after the date on which Argentina

occupied the Falkland Islands, starting the South Atlantic war last year. DYN quoted the caller as saying: “Unfortunately, the letter we sent to Margaret Thatcher was intercepted

... but sooner or later we are going to blow off her head.”

Two letter bombs sent to Mrs Thatcher at No. 10 Downing Street were safely defused on Wednesday and on Tuesday. Another, sent to the United States Navy’s European headquarters exploded on Tuesday, slightly injuring a chief petty officer.

British investigators have said that they believe the bomb sent to Mrs Thatcher was from Scottish nationalist extremists and that Tuesday’s devices were sent by Ukrainian nationalists.
