Lumber protest
The United States Commerce Department has rejected complaints that Canadian softwood lumber exports to the United States are being unfairly subsidised. The decision is a preliminary one — a final ruling should be made by May 23 — but it has dashed the hopes of American softwood producers that the United States would impose penalty duties on the Canadian lumber. — Washington.
