Super Dude shapes well

Special correspondent Wellington

In a morning of sound work generally, the visiting South Island three-year-old, Super Dude, galloped into calculations for tomorrow’s N.Z. St Leger when he worked at pace at Trentham yesterday. Just about all work took place on the course proper. Light rain fell but the track is in fine shape as a host of fast times have proved over the two days of racing. Super Dude and Lady Beebee hit out well to run 800 metres in 47.95, the last 600 in 34.85. It was a top gallop. Stylish Dude, which runs in the Chalmers, ended with 800 metres in 48s. the last 600 in 34.55.

Sir Riverton, which will be one of Super Dude's rivals, warmed up on the plough

and then came out on the course to end with 800 metres in 525, the last 600 in 37.55.

Few impressed more than Bound to Honour, which worked from the post and ended with a solid 1600 m in Imin 40.85, the final 800 in 49.3 s and the 600 in 35.25.

Clear Gold started behind Crawford’s Boy from the top of the chute but the two were pretty much on terms at the finish of 800 in 49,75, with the last 600 taking 35.5 s and the 400 245.

Trafficker worked a couple of rounds on the outside of the course proper then came the last 800 the second time in 54.85, the final 600 in 38.45.

Roving Heath started before the 1600 m and was joined by Padre Pio at the 1400. The final 800 took 48s and the final 600 34.55.
