Demas likely at Ellerslie

Demas. without the likes of Jon and The Dimple to contend with, looks one to beat in the double at the Auckland Racing Club’s restricted programme meeting at Ellerslie today. Demas finished only fifth in the IZB Classic at Avondale last Saturday but besides Jon and The Dimple the horses ahead of him were Quinquennial and Golden Rhapsody. His opponents in the II Tempo Handicap today are, mainly, not nearly as good. The best of them might prove to be Suitability and Karsavina though Jan’s Boy has the ability to make a good showing and the latest form of Aphelia, Bellismone and Harbour Princess reads well enough for this company. Tiganthu seems to be coming up well again and with a little improvement he could well take the second leg, the Pipe Dream Handicap. An impressive training sprint at Takanini yesterday gave the look of a top prospect to Wyndham and Honest Mark, trying for a hat-trick of wins, has to be rated highly.
