Chance for Compromise at Poverty Bay
In a disappointingly small field the Paeroa-trained Compromise may fulfil the promise he has shown at times to win the Leopard Premium Handicap at the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting tomorrow. Compromise has been a winner on the track on a previous visit and while there are a couple of useful opponents the Serenader gelding could score his second win for the season in tomorrow’s first leg.. The top weight, Kotare Chief, was not suited by the turning Wairoa track and despite his weight he will appreciate the roomier course and small field. So, too, will Quito Lad, which won a highweight at Wairoa and was placed there at a later start. If the Avondale entrant, Nimrod, is left to his own devices in front, he could make it difficult for both Compromise and Kotare Chief. Magoli does not win out of turn but her run for second to Le Cadeau at Hastings points to her being a strong choice in the second leg, the Rock Products Handicap. The topweight, Midnight Magic, has more ability than most but has a solid impost of 57kg. Whether a claim comes for him or not he could find Magoli a tough opponent. Sionna, which has won on the track, won’t be the least of the chances. He is a stablemate of Compromise. Race 1 11.35: Matangi Highweight. $1900: 2000m—Tun Doon 5 64;
