Show president
The president of the Amuri A. and P. Show is Mr Aubrey Cropp, a sheep farmer who lives in the Blythe Valley about 24km from Cheviot.
Mr Cropp has lived at Edge Hills for nearly 30 years. Coopworth sheep are run on the 362-hectare property and calves are bought
for fattening every autumn. Mr Cropp says it has been the second driest summer since rainfall records were first kept in the district in 1922. However, he says that the strong nor’westers have done more damage than the lack of moisture. He has been a member of
the A. and P. Association for the last 10 years and has been active in community organisations such as the Cheviot Lions Club and the Cheviot Area School Committee.
Both he and his wife, Lee, are members of the Scargill Golf Club. Lee is also a parttime teacher at the Cheviot Area School. She enjoys artwork and will be exhibiting drawings, prints and water colours at the show.
The Cropps have three children — Richard, who is a farm manager on ' Raoul Island; Mandy, who is a reporter for the “Auckland Star” and Matthew, who is a law student at the University of Canterbury.
