U.K. migrants to be surveyed
PA Wellington The expectations of Britons waiting to migrate to New Zealand and their impressions when they get here will be surveyed this year in an attempt to find reasons for fluctuations in migration. The study, to be made by a senior lecturer in sociology, at Victoria University, Dr Anand Zodgekar, with the approval of the New Zealand High Commission and the Labour Department’s Immigration Division, will embrace 600 families, or individuals, after they have been ■given permits to travel to
New Zealand. In Britain they will be asked to return a questionnaire and to send Dr Zodgekar their address in New Zealand. Dr Zodgekar said the idea was prompted by the immigration fluctuations which saw many British people return home after only a few years in New Zealand. “People always talk about the adjustment problems in terms of minority groups, but little attention has been paid to the British,” he said. “If there are any disparities, I will try to explore why they occur.”
