Dahlia exhibits attract many
Dahlia blooms of all shades, shapes, and sizes were on display at the Horticultural Hall during the week-end, and a steady stream of visitors took the opportunity to admire them. The Canterbury Horticultural Society’s annual Dahlia and Early Flowering Chrysanthemum Show at the hall attracted more than 1000 exhibits. While dahlias and chrysanthemums were the main attraction, there were also displays of roses, fuchsias, carnivorous plants, vegetables, and floral art. Cup and trophy winners were: Club silver challenge cup, most points in all classes: Mrs E. Luscombe. New Zealand Breweries, Ltd. challenge cup, most points in open classes: Mr B. D. Buckley. Champion blue ribbon and Loval trophy, best bloom in show: Mr B. D. Buckley. Mrs E. Hammond memorial trophy, best vase of nymphalia: G. S. Gunn. D. C. Browne challenge cup, . six
