An Irishman, Thomas Baird, accompanied by his Canadian girlfriend, Lyn Innes leaves 'Port Lvttelton on Saturday on his 12m ketch Ni Singa to start a 16-month journey back to Ireland. Mr Baird, a boatbuilder, built the ketch out of Irish oak which he selected and felled himself. He hopes to return to New Zealand in about four sears.
