Popular Alm wins easily
PA Melbourne The champion pacer, Popular Alm, had little more than a track workout in winning the Royal Children’s Hospital Cup at Moonee Valley on Friday evening. Popular Alm, having his final start before crossing the Tasman for the InterDominions at Auckland this week, cruised to an effortless victory. The six-year-old settled at the rear of the field and his driver, Vin Knight, was content to remain there until racing around the field at the 500 m mark.
Knight did not ask Popular Alm to unwind his usual powerful sprint, and was content to let the horse run easily. Popular Alm, starting 25-to-1 on as the shortest priced favourite at Moonee. Valley, had 10m to spare from Dallas Brigade, with Adios Supreme third.
