Dog control
Sir,—Now that the long awaited reform bill pertaining to dogs and their owners has been approved by the Government we can heave a sigh of thankfulness, that is for those who care. Any legislation to improve the welfare of dogs unfortunate enough to miss having responsible owners sensitive to their dogs’ needs, is really something to celebrate but by no means extensive enough, many people would say, to make the impact required in restricting indiscriminate breeding. By the registration of owners of bitches who choose to breed from them also the aim to spay (admittedly expensive) the majority of bitches or hopefully in the future, contraceptive pills, as used to control the lion population at Orana Park is essential to complete a satisfactory legislation—Yours, etc..
