Drop in class should suit Nottingham Belle

Special correspondent Dunedin A drop in class should enable Nottingham Belle to break through for a win in the THC Handicap, the first leg of the Cromwell Jockey Club's T.A.B. double tomorrow.

Nottingham Belle has been placed in her last two starts, both in class one races, which are open to all classes. Tomorrow she is in a race for the winners of two to four races. There was much merit in her second placing, to Dragoon, at Omakau two starts back as she was checked to the rear early, then went to the lead at the 1300 m and was beaten by only a head. Her races have been well spaced and in her subsequent

start at Gore on February 1 she finished fourth to Dragoon. Another placing close up on her record was a second to Puff's Angel in the Summer Cup at Invercargill. Puff's. Angel carried on to win a class one race at Riverton.

Copernicus. Hiwinui and Gallant Ace are others in the field with sound form this season.

Gallant Ace finished second to Dragoon at Gore on February 1, with Copernicus third. Hiwinui finished second to Black Rule in the Waikouaiti Cup and fourth in the Kurow Cup. Sporting Show will be in demand for the DB Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. He won impressively over the distance, 1400 m, at Wingatui last Saturday in the style of his win in the Members' Handicap at the New Zealand Cup meeting last November.

Sporting Show won the Cromwell Stakes all the way and finished third over 1200 m at Cromwell 12 months ago, but his style of racing has changed. He now drops out early in his races, which could place demands on his ability on the tight Cromwell track.

Katiki Bay is a handy sprinter which could make Sporting Show work hard, especially with an advantage of five kilograms; No apprentice allowances can be claimed in the race, in contrast to the THC Handicap.
