Umberto snag
Italian political sources forecast an overwhelming Parliamentary vote next week to revoke the ban on the exiled former King Umbertos return home, but because of Constitutional requirements this will not be enough to permit his early arrival. Constitutional changes have to go through the Chamber and the Senate, or Upper House, twice with a minimum three-month pause in each Chamber between the two readings. Suggested moves to speed up the process have not yet found widespread support. King Umberto, aged 78, who is suffering from bone cancer, reigned for only a month in 1946. going into exile when a referendum abolished the monarch v.—Rome.
