Farm employers notified
The Farm Workers' Association is to circularise all farmers in Canterbury advising them of their responsibilities under the re-cently-revised Farm and Station Award
The president of the association. Mr David Redderwick. of Parnassus, said this week that the circular would point out that representatives of Federated Farmers had been party to an agreement on voluntary registration of farm workers.
It was now up to individual farmers to abide by that agreement.
"This time farmers are not spectators on the industrial scene. Now they must be involved to make it work.” he said.
Basically the requirement on employers of farm workers is to advise the Farm Workers' Association of the names of their farm employees and draw the attention of their employees to the membership provisions. The employees must, in turn, either register with the association or apply in writing from the association for an examption. A breach of the award occurs if neither a membership card nor an exemption certificate is held by an employee.
