Fletcher Challenge was actively traded on a wide range of prices as the New Zealand sharemarket ended the week on a firm, busy note. Fletcher traded between 193 c and 201 c, to finish up 1c at 195 c on its largest parcel, after the news that the Canadian Government had approved its Crown Zelierback deal, and that the rights issue would proceed. Newspaper issues were in demand, helped by the report that Independent Newspapers will acquire a 20 per cent interest in the Timaru Herald Company. Christchurch Press rose 10c. Independent Newspapers 3c. N.Z. News sc. and United Publishing and Printing sc. EMCO continued to be actively traded for a 3c gain. TNL Group eased 2c to 135 c after reporting a fall in earnings.
