Bogus doctor jailed
NZPA Preston. England A secondary school biology teacher who set up a clinic, performed vasectomies and an abortion to fulfil his dreams of becoming a gynaecologist was sentenced yesterday to six years in prison. Roy Grimshaw, aged 34. pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including performing an unlawful abortion, inflicting grievous bodily harm, forg-
ing prescriptions, and obtaining money, blood, and drugs by deception. The prosecutor. Mr Richard Henriques, told the court that Grimshaw had conducted at least 26 operations. None of them was fatal, but some had caused injury and all had caused the patients substantial risk. Several patients had developed complications that later had
to be treated at local hospitals. but none had complained. The sham practice was discovered only when Grimshaw was convicted of speeding. Mr Henriques said. One of the magistrates who let him keep his licence because he said he was a doctor had noticed him later at a high school parentteacher meeting and had had him arrested for perjury.
