Silly mid-off and other mysteries
For those who have become attracted to cricket because of the World Cup limited-over series, and who will watch the match in Christchurch today, "The Press” presents a guide to fielding positions. Limited-over rules make some requirements as to the placement of fielders—for
instance, no more than five can be on the leg, or on, side for a delivery—but the position names are constant. So for casual fans or new admirers of the game, silly mid-off should no longer be a mystery, either from in front of the tele- vision set, or at the match.
