Volition stars in training
Special correspondent Hastings Fast sprints bv Volition. Kurdistan Agent ‘ and Prenora. and another sound trial, from Lucozade were among the highlights at yesterday morning's Hastings track session.
Fast work was carried out on the course proper and plough. Both tracks were firm.
The course proper should provide fast footing for tomorrow's Napier Park meeting.
Prenora worked over 600 m on the course proper, where the trestles were out 10m. in 365. She appeared to be doing her work very well at the finish.
Apprentice Peter Avres will either ride Prenora or her stablemate Nukumara in the Gilbeys Handicap tomorrow. Trainer Don Sellwood has yet to make a final decision. Kurdistan Agent worked
on the plough and turned on the power over 800 m in 48.35, the last 600 in 36.45. He has seldom looked better and has to rate an outside chance in the open sprint. Ayres will also ride him and will claim a 4.5 kg allowance.
Lucozade showed he has trained on well since winning at Tuesdays Hastings trials by running a solid 600 m on the plough in 37.15. He was doing his work easily at the finish and is in peak condition for the President's Handicap. Noel Harris has the mount again. Volition ran one of the fastest times on the plough when he ran 600 m in 35.95. He was also a winner at the Hastings trials on Tuesday and contests the second Hawke Maiden.
The stablemates. Tallboy and Flyboy, appeared to be hitting out well at the end of 1000 m in Imin 2.45, the last 600 in 37.95.
