Jackman to emigrate
PA Auckland England’s medium-pace bowler. Robin Jackman. at present in New Zealand with the English touring team, has announced that he will retire from representative cricket when he returns home next week. The 37-year-old Surrey professional said after England’s loss to New Zealand in the first of the three one-day internationals in Auckland on Saturday that he would leave his country on his return and emigrate to South Africa.
Jackman has a South African-born wife and played for the Western Province in the Currie Cup competition in 1971-72. From 1972 to 1980 he played for Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). In the 1980-81 season, he was banned from playing in Guyana by the Guyanese Government when he joined the England team on their tour of the West Indies as a replacement for the injured Bob Willis. Jackman began his firstclass career with Surrey in 1966.
