Bus service
Sir,—When will it sink into the minds of the Christchurch Transport Board that they are trying to impose a 1933 transport system on a 1983 public? Times have changed. People are using private cars for shopping and commuting, because they are more convenient, if not more economical. The bus services should be scaled down, apart from peak times, to hourly services, and smaller buses used for these. As for reliability; you say the Christchurch Transport Board has a good record for this. How
about all those Friday stopwork meetings? The board should consider using part-time staff, and as workers retire or leave, they should not be replaced. There seems to be no other way for the board to balance its budget. — Yours, etc..
