Artificial Limb Centre
Sir, — Your feature story on the Riccarton Artificial Limb Centre must have brought to the notice of many people the numbers of amputees there are. and the time and skill that goes into the business of making them mobile again. I became an amputee at the age of 73 and paid my first visit to the limb centre with trepidation, not knowing what was ahead of me. I was met by Mrs Wyse. who has given 26 years to making people like me welcome, and with her smiling friendliness, calming any fears we might have. One aspect your writers did not get was of the great patience, kindness, and- cheerful tolerance of Bill, Des, and Mark in their daily handling of people like me. Now at 75,1 lead a normal and full life which is entirely due to their dedication to work that must be far from cheerful. —
Yours, etc., MARY McINTYRE. February 17, 1983.
