Avonside 1 still unbeaten
Avonside Is unbeaten run in the summer A grade table tennis competition continued in the latest round at the Selwyn Street hall when it lost only one match against Dallington. Avonside 11. which had suffered a surprise defeat the previous round, had a decisive win against Linwood to hold its second position.
The only minor upset was the loss by Riccarton II The thirdplaced side, which beat Avonside II a week earlier, lost on a count-back of games to its No. 1 team.
The dependable defender. Bert Thompson, was in good form for Avonside I and his opponents had to struggle to reach double figures; in some instances they failed to achieve that.
The national women's representative. Jan Morris (Avonside ll>. attacked too well for her Linwood rivals and won all three matches in straight games. Results.-
