Local body financial statistics
PA Wellington Local bodies increased their receipts by $184.4 million and their payments by $166.6 million in the 19801981 financial year, according to latest Statistics Department figures. The principal contributions to the rise in receipts were rates, which rose $75.4M, income from non-trading activities ($42.6M), fuel, light and power ($11.8M), current
account grants and levies ($45.4M) and interest ($10.8M). Main causes of the increase in payments were salaries and wages (SS3M), payments for commodities and services ($64.9M) and interest payments ($21.6M). Capital receipts rose 8 per cent to S4OBM, while capital payments increased 13.8 per cent to $467M.
