DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE A CAREER IN RESIDENTIAL SOCIAL WORK APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from men and . women 24 to 40 years of age, perferably with at least University Entrance or Sixth Form Certificate, who are interested in residential work as an aspect of social work in the fields of child care, or in the care, training and treatment of the young person who is disturbed, or offending. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a programme of training lasting 18 weeks. The first portion of three weeks immediately following taking up appointment and commencing on May 30, will be spent in familiarisation and observation in an institution. This will be ffollowed by a five week period of training commencing June 20 at the Department’s Residential Staff Training School at Levin. There will then be a six week practical placement before the final four week period at the Training School which concludes on September 30. On satisfactory completion of training those considered suitable will be placed in institutions of the Department as Assistant Residential Social Workers in accordance with available vacancies . and preferences. In lodging application, preferred location on completion of training should be stated together with any factors which may have a bearing on where the applicant ultimately wishes to work. An appointment carries with it a willingness on the appointee’s behalf to accept a posting as directed by the Department to any one of the Department’s institutions, both during and after training. Salary on appointment will be at a point appropriate in terms of qualification and experience on a scale from $9616 up to $16,116. Annual increments are granted until the maximum salary is reached.
