Eblouir sold for $25,000
The well-performed mare, Eblouir, realised top price of $25,000 at a sale of mixed standardbred stock in Christchurch yesterday. A 13-year-old mare, Eblouir was offered on behalf of Mr Jack Ferguson, of Greenpark. As the dam of a classic winner in Jayex, she met with a keen inquiry before being passed in at $20,000, but being sold almost immediately for $25,000 to Wrightson Bloodstock, Ltd, acting on behalf of a Christchurch buyer. There was a firm market for well-bred mares, the West Melton studmaster, Mr Jim Dalgety, paying $16,100 for Scottish Glow, which had a colt at foot by Out to Win and had been served by Smooth Fella. The close relation to Arania has left four winners, including Winsome Star, Patrona Glow and Winsome Glow. She was offered on behalf of Mr Ron Dalziel and Dr Bruce Todd, of Christchurch. The average for the first 20 broodmares sold exceeded $5OOO, but a number of lesser lights and a supplementary catalogue of little commercial interest dragged the day’s average down to $3781 for 49 lots which realised $185,300. Australian buyers showed little interest, taking four lots for $21,700. The highest price of $14,000 was paid by Mr Terry Shanahan, of Sydney, for the three-year-old filly, Flawless (Out to WinTorrent), offered on behalf of Mr and Mrs Jim Connelly, of Temuka. She had been served by Noodlum. Sales of $4OOO and more were.— BROODMARES R. P. Dalziel and Dr G. B.
